The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Family Sponsor Program

Making the RCAF a better home than ever before

Family Sponsor Program (FSP) volunteers, at Wings across the country, stand ready to assist families settle into their new communities this posting season.

About the Family Sponsor Program

Since 2013 the Family Support Team (FST) has met with and consulted RCAF members, their loved ones, and all RCAF units. The goal was to reduce the stress placed on families caused by relocation due to posting. As a result, in 2014, the Family Sponsor Program (FSP) was launched.

The FSP and its associated RCAF units work in conjunction with local Military Family Resource Centres (MFRCs). Together they recruit, build and maintain a team of volunteer sponsors at each Wing. The volunteer sponsors pro-actively reach out to and assist families that are newly posted or affected by duty-related separations.

How the FSP and volunteer sponsors help

  • serve as a friendly point of contact for the new family when they arrive
  • facilitate the introduction of the new folks to other families within the unit
  • facilitate access to the support and services that posted families need
  • ease the process for families of settling into their new surroundings
  • foster a greater sense of community at the unit level particularly during a posting move or deployment
